“作新女性——涉外俱乐部招聘女性事务员，包吃住服装，高收入，限18至25岁女性”这样的广告，或许在今天也会有很多人动心吧。也难怪1945年9月20日，当这则广告在日本各大报刊登出的时候，当天就有一千六百余人来面试，而三个月内各地应聘的女性达到六万人之多。发放这则广告的，是日本政府东京警视厅参加设立的RAA协会。RAA就是“特殊慰安施设协会”，是日本为美国占领军提供性服务的专门机构，日本人称之为“国家卖春机关”。
五十年了，日本政府从没有给过RAA的“玛丽”，“潘潘”们一个交待，更不要说补偿……
当年，NHK电台曾经作过一个节目《幸运町的“潘潘”》，来描述她们的生活，其中菊地章子为主角所作最后的咏叹《流星》，一点儿被世界所抛弃的辛酸，恰似正是说她们的命运：
流星之下占我身，
今日宿何处也，
此心纷乱。
胸中可还有心在？
我实不知，
欲泣也无泪。
这女子，
无人知她是谁。
也知道日本战败后的惨痛是咎由自取，也知道日本对战争的反省根本还不及格，也知道我们自己的同胞中，还有更为凄惨的遭遇……可是，写这个题目的时候，还是无法摆脱对潘潘们的同情，或许，仅仅因为同是人类。
